Server admin guide

Add Miney.Link, require Minecraft for a role, and look up a member.

Add Miney.Link to your server

You need the Manage Server permission. From the Servers page of your dashboard, press Add next to your server. Miney.Link asks for one permission, Manage Roles, and uses it only to give and take back the roles you choose under Hand out roles automatically, below. It asks for no channel permissions: it answers slash commands and sets Linked Roles status, nothing more. If you only use Linked Roles, you can leave the permission off.

Require a Minecraft account for a role

  1. Open Server Settings → Roles and pick (or create) the role.

  2. Go to the Links tab and choose Add requirement.

  3. Choose Miney.Link, then one of:

    • Minecraft Verified is true: the member linked a Microsoft account that has an Xbox profile.
    • Owns Java is true: the member owns Minecraft: Java Edition.
    • Owns Bedrock is true: the member owns or has played Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
    • Linked since is more than a number of days ago: the member linked their Minecraft account at least that long ago. Use it next to the others to keep out brand-new accounts. It counts from the first time they linked that Microsoft account, so linking again does not restart it, but switching to a different Microsoft account does.

To accept either edition, make two roles, or require just Minecraft Verified.

  4. Save. Members who meet the requirement get the role. Members who have not linked yet are shown a Connect button in the server's Linked Roles.

Linked Roles are configured entirely in Discord. Each member also has to turn the connection on for your server, which Discord asks them to do. If you would rather the bot gave the roles itself, with no opt-in for the member, see the next section.

About Linked since. Members who linked before this requirement existed have no date yet. They get one the next time they press Connect, so a role that needs Linked since will not reach them until they do.

About Bedrock. There is no official way to check who owns Bedrock. Miney.Link combines the Minecraft store entitlements with Xbox play history, so it can say a person owns or has played it. Hidden Xbox privacy settings can cause misses, and it is not proof of purchase. Use Owns Bedrock accordingly.

Hand out roles automatically

Miney.Link can give roles itself, as well as through Linked Roles. Choose up to three roles:

  • Verified goes to everyone who has linked.
  • Java goes to linked members who own Java Edition.
  • Bedrock goes to linked members who own or have played Bedrock Edition.

Set them up either way, they change the same settings:

  • On the website: open your Servers page, press Settings next to your server, pick the roles and save.
  • In Discord: run /setup with the verified, java and bedrock options. Run it with no options to see what is set. reset:true stops managing every role.

Before it works:

  1. The bot needs the Manage Roles permission. The invite link asks for it. If Miney.Link was added without it, give its role the permission under Server Settings → Roles.
  2. In Server Settings → Roles, drag the Miney.Link role above the roles you chose. Discord only lets a bot give roles that sit below its own. The settings page and /setup tell you when a role is above it.
  3. Roles that Discord manages for an integration (such as a booster role) and @everyone cannot be chosen.

After that:

  • When someone links, unlinks or deletes their account, their roles change in every server that has Sync automatically on. It is on unless you turn it off.
  • /update lets any member refresh their own roles in the server where they run it.
  • /sync, or Sync now on the settings page, goes through everyone who has linked (the first 5,000) and fixes their roles. It can be run three times in ten minutes per server, and a big server takes a few minutes. The result shows in the reply and on the settings page.

Miney.Link only ever adds or removes the roles you chose here. It does not touch any other role, and it does not look at people who never linked (Discord only lets a bot list a server's members with a setting this bot does not ask for), so a role someone has by hand stays theirs. Roles you stop managing are not taken back from people who already have them.

/helpAnyoneLists the commands. Only you see the reply.

/whois only works inside a server, only for members of that server, and only if you have Manage Server or Administrator there, even if the command's permission was loosened in Discord's integration settings.

Give new members a place to link

Run /panel in a channel such as #verify or #welcome. Miney.Link posts a card with a Link my Minecraft account button, and anyone can press it. Once a member has linked, they get the roles you set up, either from Discord (Linked Roles) or from Miney.Link itself (automatic role sync). The card only shows people where to start.

A few things to know:

  • Miney.Link needs no permission to post the card, because it is the reply to your command. It only needs Manage Roles if you want it to hand out roles itself.
  • You can pin the card or leave it as the channel's first message. Run /panel again for a new one; the old card keeps working.
  • Members who already linked in another server don't need to do anything for Linked Roles: Discord gives them the role as soon as they join. With automatic role sync they can run /update once, or you can run /sync.

Find who someone is by their Minecraft name

When something happens in game and all you have is a name, run /whois and fill in minecraft instead of choosing a member. The name can be a Java name or an Xbox gamertag. Miney.Link shows the member of this server who linked it, with their Java and Bedrock usernames, their editions and Java UUID.

  • It only ever looks inside your own server. A name that was linked by someone who isn't a member of your server gets the same answer as a name nobody linked, so it can't be used to learn about people elsewhere.
  • Names match whatever the capitals. It's limited to 20 lookups a minute per admin, and each one is recorded like the member lookup, who looked and in which server. The name you typed is not recorded.
  • If two members linked accounts with the same name, you see both.

What members share with you

/whois shows a Java username and a Bedrock username, which editions were found, and the Java UUID if there is one. It never shows a member's Xbox ID, and Miney.Link holds no passwords or sign-in tokens to show.

Every /whois lookup is recorded: who looked up whom, and in which server. These records are kept for 90 days. See the privacy policy.

If a member needs help

Point them to the player guide. Most problems are an Xbox profile that does not exist yet, a child account awaiting approval, or a Microsoft account that is already linked to another Discord account.
